Steel and aluminum body panels have memory. When something pushes a panel in without stretching the metal past its limit, the metal wants to return to the shape it was stamped into. PDR uses that. Working from behind the panel with precision rods, the technician applies controlled pressure to the lowest point of the dent and massages the metal back in tiny increments, reading the reflection of an LED line board across the panel to see high and low spots the naked eye would miss.

When there is no clean path behind the panel, glue pulling works from the front instead. A tab is glued to the paint surface, the dent is pulled outward, then any small high spots are tapped down and the tab is released with no harm to the finish. That is the quiet financial argument for PDR. A conventional repair on a dented panel means filler and a respray, which fixes the look but permanently marks the panel as repainted. PDR removes the dent and leaves no such fingerprint, because nothing was added and nothing was sprayed. The dent is simply gone and the panel is original. The best candidates are dents where the paint is intact and the metal is not torn or heavily creased. Door dings, shopping cart hits, rounded dents from a bumped bicycle or a dropped tailgate load, and many larger shallow dents all respond well.
